Every little bit helps, I understand that, but...
I question the “charity” of McDonald's when they
say 10 cents of every Happy Meal will go to helping Ronald McDonald
Houses. I question when they “donate” a dollar from the sale from a Big
Mac and certain items on ONE day of the year.
With a company that makes as much money as they do off the backs
of their workers that they cannot afford to keep their namesake, Ronald
McDonald Houses, running off the sales of the Happy Meal alone, why is only 10
cents donated? I have not bought a Happy Meal for many years, but the last time
I did even a dollar from each sale would be better then 10 cents.
Miserly is how I consider them, not just in wages but in
their compassion for those who have to deal with tragedy; who have to
deal with very sick children.
The homes are named after the McDonald's franchise
mascot I believe, Ronald McDonald, are they not?
I am not absolutely positive, but I do believe that
Ronald McDonald Homes do not have much to with McDonald's Franchise per
say, but McDonald's could and should be more supportive
then a dollar from this or that once a year and 10 cents from happy
meals, considering McDonald's is getting the free publicity for the
"charity" work and the name of the buildings alone.
Many people that have stayed at Ronald McDonald houses will know
how they are run. While I do not expect to live for nothing, those who are dealing
with a child on deaths door should not have to worry about having to vacuum,
dust or any other chore. Volunteers come in to help and many other people
staying at the home will probably pick up the slack, but the guidelines at the
homes are that you bring and supply your own food, you help with the daily
chores around the entire home and you take care of your living quarters.
I agree that supplying your own groceries and taking care of your
own living quarters should be your responsibility, but when your children are
sick do you really want to worry about vacuuming the common area in the Ronald
McDonald house, wiping down toys or dusting?
Yes, some people want to keep busy. Others, however, want to spend
every waking moment with their sick child or there are other children to
entertain and locking them up in the House while you do chores isn't always effective
especially when they are active, need to be outside and there is only one
parent available.
If McDonald's were to donate ALL OR HALF the
proceeds from each Happy Meal sold to Ronald McDonald House Charities
do you think that a caretaker could be hired(at a living wage, say even
$15/hr to start) for each Ronald McDonald
House would be possible?
McDonald's is not just dropping the ball in shorting their
workers in wages, for a multi-million dollar company that could do more…it is
sucking free publicity off those who cannot help themselves.
McDonald's Franchise could do better for its namesake Ronald
McDonald Houses.
